My Day...

My day began with Daddy calling me to see if Cohen and I wanted to meet he and Grammy for an early lunch. Translation: "We really want to see our sweet baby, Cohen, and acknowledge that if his mother must tag along as well, then so be it!" So we met at Bob Evans where we proceeded to wait for our food for the longest time ever recorded in the history of man. Seriously, manna from heaven would have been faster. And of course Cohen is going through a phase (please, God, let it be a phase!) where he strongly dislikes sitting in a high chair waiting for food. So I spent about a half an hour wrangling him, wrestling things out of his hands, dodging thrown food and providing for his general entertainment. But, I digress.

Now the past month or so Grammy been getting a little wacky. She's having some memory loss issues and perhaps some dementia-like problems that we're getting her tested for. She's also been VERY slow moving, even slower than normal. One would think that those all would have been red flags, and yet I wasn't really thinking about any of that when I decided to take her grocery shopping with Cohen.

So we weren't but maybe 10 feet inside the Wal-Mart when Grammy tells me she wants to get a new mop. I tell her that the mops are on the opposite side of the store and we'll get it last. And yet, poor Grammy continues to ask me literally every 2 minutes, in every new aisle that we enter, where the mops are. Walking down every single aisle, she'd say, "Well, I guess they just don't sell mops anymore." And every single time, I'd say the same thing, "They have them, we're just not to that section yet." Apparently, she didn't quite believe me because EVERY time we passed a Wal-Mart employee she'd ask them where the mops were! She must have asked 5 or 6 of them!

And on top of that she kept forgetting to walk, so she'd just stand there until I coaxed her to come on. Then she decided that she wanted to push the cart because then she was closer to Cohen, but it was too heavy for her to push. I kept trying to nudge her out of the way to push it, but she was hanging on for dear life. So I finally just had to give up and pull the cart from the front while she "pushed" from the back.

I finally get Grammy, Cohen and all the groceries loaded up in the van and Grammy turns to Cohen and says, "You want some ice cream don't you sweet baby?!?" So, of course, Cohen starts yelling "Hay Ping, Hay Ping, Hay Ping!" (that's how he pronounces ice cream). So I get a couple of Blizzards to take back to her house and as I'm trying to maneuver all the bags of groceries into the house Grammy gives Cohen the WHOLE Blizzard and a spoon! As you can imagine, by the time I get back inside he's got ice cream on every square inch of his body, all over the table and all over the floor! He finishes and I strip him down, wash him off, and get his clothes changed. I go out to change Grammy's trash bag and come back to find that she is now giving him a milkshake!!! So I have to wrestle that away from him and we're finally ready to leave.

As we're going out to the car Grammy trips on the steps and sprawls out flat on her back. I'm trying to pull her up off the ground and, of course, that is the exact moment that Cohen decides to make a dart for the street. I drop Grammy and run to retrieve him, and now only have one arm to pull her up with since I'm holding a kicking and screaming toddler now with my other hand. I finally get him strapped into his seat when Grammy remembers that she was going to give me an aloe plant that she potted. I told her I would get it later, and besides I already have one at home any way. But she is determined to give me this plant, so she goes inside to get it while I wait by the car with Cohen. A couple minutes later she pokes her head out the door to say she's made quite the mess inside and could I help her. Soooo, back out comes Cohen from his car seat and inside to find that she dropped the whole plant into the garden tub and it's broken into a gazillion pieces with dirt absolutely everywhere! I finish getting that cleaned up and get Cohen strapped back into his seat and we're finally ready to leave! I drive away, waving bye to Grammy, with a reaffirmed belief that perhaps one child is quite sufficient.

Old Man Cohen!

After seeing Grammy (he's started calling her Gi-Gi [pronounced Gee-Gee] walking around using her cane, Cohen had to try too!

Sleeping Sweetie!

So tired, he fell asleep mid-snack!

Happy (Early) Birthday, Daddy!

Mom, Daddy and Grammy came up to our house today for an early birthday dinner for Daddy!

Daddy with his birthday pie!
Blowing out the candles!
So apparently Cohen was a bit of a stinker when he stayed with Mimi and Pa Pa last night. Yep, that's Mimi with a fat, busted lip because "someone" threw a phone at her head.

Happy Father's Day!

GKCamp Festival!

To celebrate the end of a great week of VBS, Cohen enjoyed the small festival at church! I taught missions again this year to the 1st and 2nd graders, but unfortunately a really bad case of food poisoning kept me at home on Wednesday and Thursday! :-(

Sweet boy!
