Hawaii Creates "Islam Day"

So I just read an article that Hawaii's State Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill this past Wednesday to celebrate "Islam Day." The resolution to proclaim September 24th as Islam Day passed the Senate with a vote of 22-3, with the lone two Hawaii Senate Republicans and one democrat voting against it. The bill seeks to recognize "the rich religious, scientific, cultural and artistic contributions" that Islam and the Islamic world have made. It does not call for any spending or organized celebration of Islam Day. (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/05/06/hawaii-lawmakers-pass-create-islam-day/) The Senate members who were for the bill stated that they wanted to recognize and celebrate the many good aspects of Islam, while the opponents of the bill said that they didn't really want to celebrate or recognize a religion that is so closely associated with 9/11 and terrorism.

So here's my humble thought on the situation: Does Hawaii have a Jewish Day? Or a Christian Day? Or a Hindu Day? Maybe a Wicca Day? Because if not, than why are they singling out Islam for "Islam Day." It seems to me that you hear an awful lot of people (perhaps a few renegade Republicans but traditionally for the most part Democrats) who are always chanting "Separation of Church and State!" So let me get this straight...passing a Senate bill that declares an "Islam Day" holiday represents their exemplary ideology of separation of church and state? Come on now, really!?! If you're for the separation of Church and State, my friend, you might want to get your ideals in line and make sure you include all the "Churches!" Otherwise, here's a rock... (yep, that goes out to all of my peeps who love The Office!)

Dear Anonymous,

I have removed the comment you posted sharing your website on Islam's Muhammad. As a follower of Christ (and a human being, for that matter) I found it highly offensive, hate-filled, and divisive. Although I might not believe in another's religous convictions, I feel Jesus calls us to love EVERYONE. And there was nothing of God, love, or mercy in that website. I politely request that you refrain from posting that kind of rubbish on my blog again.

Thank you,

Emily

Perhaps it is just another "holiday" initiated by Hallmark to sell more cards
